What makes a good gentleman?
The whole idea of a gentleman is a little bit silly and outdated, because it is referring to traditional gender roles that we don’t believe in. Anyone can be a gent <3 It’s all about being open and treating people with respect: no matter how different they seem from your POV.
What is beauty to you and how do you integrate it into your work?
Beauty is something that feels surprisingly natural. It’s an energy that rises and falls effortlessly. We try to apply this to our music by maintaining an element of spontaneity when we are writing – just letting the music itself take control. Not too much thinking, simply enjoying and having fun in the process. We are all about having a good and beautiful time.
Do you have any favourite music videos?
There’s a lot of good ones out there! So hard to choose your favourite ones. We have a lot of talented friends as, for instance, the hilarious World Brain and his music video for “Network”.
Another one that gets us every time is Michael Bolton dancing around in fire in the video for “Said I Loved You… But I Lied”. Also pretty bold to be rocking that open shirt Canadian suit.
But in the end the most simple stuff can work if the energy is right and the charisma is present. Like Soft Hair and the video for “Lying Has To Stop”. A very bromantic moment!
What’s your own favourite music video and could you share a little bit about the process of making it?
It’s difficult to choose just one of them, you don’t have a favourite child. All of them come with a lot of memories and have been very different process-wise. The “Love is Tears” video was made in one day with everything from ideas, shooting and editing. The “Smoke Machine” video took several months to make. We flew to LA to shoot the video with the director Taylor, who we had been in contact with for months. The editing also went on for months as we did it back and forth via email. Very 21st century!
If you could have a conversation with any historical or famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
We really would have liked to hang out with Gianni Versace in his epic mansion with Ricky Martin. Maybe have a special GENTS outfit made.! RIP…
What would your personal paradise look like?
Like decorhardcore on instagram with free food, alcohol and hi speed WiFi.
If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your lives, what would it be?
Simply Red – ‘Something Got Me Started’ makes you feel fabulous and confident. But really hope that it’s not going to happen.
What is your advice on where not to go and what not to do in Copenhagen for someone who has never been there before?
Whatever you do, don’t go to Gothersgade. It’s all about shitty beers, gropey dudes and cock fights. Write us if you are ever in town!
Who is your celebrity crush?
Grace Jones. What an icon <3
You’ve mentioned in one of your interviews how sometimes perceiving things of ‘bad taste’ in another light can be revelatory. Do you think that what is considered ‘tasteless’ is actually an under-explored matter?
Don’t know if it is under-explored… For sure it can be! But to us a cliché or something over-the-top is the perfect starting point for writing a song. If you start exploring why some things are considered bad taste or cliché, you more than often find that there’s some sort of beauty or truth to it. We always try to distill that and mix it up with something cool and fresh.
If falling in love would be something you can see what would it look like?
Could you describe the experience of your first performance? What was it like?
Our first show was awful! It was piss raining and it was outside at a small private party in Copenhagen. We got really drunk and played like shit haha…
Imagine you were born in Eastern Europe: what would your names be and briefly describe your alternative lives.
It’s really hard to imagine your life different. Guess we would be called Тайс and Нільс and hopefully be as good friends as we are now! And we would be able to hang out a lot more with our beloved friend Alexander, who helped us set up the whole tour haha.
What have you learned from each other?
That life is an adventure <3. Seize the world with an open heart and good things will happen to you.
What question would you like to be asked at an interview and what would your answer be?
“Would you rather have a lizard instead of a nose or talk like a pokemon for the rest of your life?”
Would go for the lizard. It might be cute. Also, you’d be more edgy than all the normal-nosed ppl. If you talked like a pokemon you’d be very limited. The lizard opens up some possibilities in life. Plus if you are really embarrassed you can be creative with new fashionable face items.
